Nasya Therapy

Nasya Therapy
Nasya Therapy is a classical Ayurvedic treatment that involves administering herbal oils, medicated ghee, or herbal juices through the nostrils.
It is a part of Panchakarma therapy and is mainly used to cleanse, nourish, and strengthen the head, nose, and neck region.
According to Ayurveda, the nose is the gateway to the head and brain, so Nasya helps improve respiratory health, mental clarity, and overall vitality.
Types of Nasya Therapy
-
Virechana Nasya (Cleansing Nasya) – Removes excess mucus, toxins, and impurities from the nasal passages.
-
Brimhana Nasya (Nourishing Nasya) – Administers medicated oils to nourish and strengthen tissues.
-
Shamana Nasya (Palliative Nasya) – Reduces imbalances like headaches, stress, and dryness.
-
Navana Nasya – Uses a combination of oils for both cleansing and nourishment.
-
Marsha Nasya – Higher dose, done under supervision for chronic conditions.
-
Pratimarsha Nasya – Low-dose daily Nasya for general wellness and prevention.
How it Works
Warm medicated oil or herbal extract is gently instilled into the nostrils while the patient lies with the head tilted back.
The medicine passes through nasal passages and sinus areas, reaching the head and throat.
It helps open blocked channels (srotas), improves oxygen supply, and nourishes the nervous system.
Nasya also clears Kapha (mucus) and balances Vata in the head region.
