Shiro Basti Therapy

Shiro Basti Therapy

Shiro Basti is a specialized Ayurvedic treatment in which medicated oil is retained over the scalp inside a leather or latex cap for a prescribed duration.
The therapy nourishes the brain, calms the mind, and balances the Vata dosha in the head region.
It is primarily recommended for neurological, psychological, and scalp-related disorders.

It is a part of Panchakarma therapy and is mainly used to cleanse, nourish, and strengthen the head, nose, and neck region.
According to Ayurveda, the nose is the gateway to the head and brain, so Nasya helps improve respiratory health, mental clarity, and overall vitality.

Types of Shiro Basti Therapy

  1. Sneha Shiro Basti – Using medicated oils (like Brahmi oil, Ksheerabala oil, Dhanwantharam oil).

  2. Kashaya Shiro Basti – Using herbal decoctions (kashayams) instead of oil.

  3. Takra Shiro Basti – Using medicated buttermilk (for Pitta-related issues like migraine and burning sensations).
